WP 3 – Safety Performance Indicators

Problem to be tackled

Road accident data are imperfect indicators of the road safety situation in a country.

Main goal

Developing and monitoring a set of Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs).

Main method

Abstract a framework of Safety Performance indicators from literature, gathering and analyzing data.

Important subjects

There are seven SPI areas that are studied in this work package: Alcohol and drugs, Speeds, Protective systems, Daytime running lights, Vehicles (passive safety), Roads, Trauma management.

Current status

The SPI methodology is still being improved. We have gathered basic information and data from almost all EU countries.

State of the art report for SPIs.

Future plans

Improving the common framework of SPIs ; assisting countries with (more & better) data collection in line with the framework.
