National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) - GREECE

The educational and research programme of the Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering of the School of Civil Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens covers the transport of persons and goods by all transport modes, from the phase of surveys, general planning and feasibility study, up to implementation studies and the construction of infrastructure. More precisely, the Department covers topics, which have been grouped in the three main areas of Railways and Transport, Highway Engineering and Traffic Engineering. A relevant Laboratory is operating in each one of these three topics. Over the last 20 years, the Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering of NTUA has been involved in more than 50 international and 80 national research projects, totalling a budget of more than 11 million euros. Special emphasis has been given over the last twenty years to research on road safety and traffic and accident analysis, as well on transportation information systems at national and international level. More precisely, NTUA participated in numerous road safety projects of the 3rd, 4th and 5th EU RTD Framework Programmes (e.g. QUARTET, ADEPT, SAFESTAR, ARROWS, PROMISING, ADVISORS, ROSEBUD, HEARTS, etc) and other EU-projects (SARTRE 2 & 3, COST-329, CAREPLUS 1 & 2, etc.). Additionally, NTUA has been involved in several national research projects in the area of road safety (strategic plan for road safety in Greece, road safety audits, accident analysis information system, etc.). NTUA maintains close contacts with leading transport research institutes in Europe and several transport Authorities at national and international level.
