Protective clothing

Proper clothing should protect all body parts against injuries when sliding over a surface. Other requirements depending on the climate and weather conditions are protection against cold, wet or heat. Clothing should not restrict the movements of the rider. On the basis of four studies, Elvik & Vaa [14] estimated the effectiveness of protective clothing in reducing injuries. They concluded that the use of protective clothing reduces the probability of minor injury in an accident by 33-50%. This applies to the use of gloves, boots and clothing.
